Bangor Junior Success - Leo Roars!
Congratulations to Leo who was the winner of the Under 8 red ball group at Bangor Tennis Club's recent junior tournament. The children were split into two groups of which the winner and the runner up went through to the next round. Each match was the best of three sets (first to 10 points). Leo won each of his matches in his group and went through to play the runner up of the other group. Leo played against Katie in the semi final and won in two sets. He then played against Paige in the final. The final was a real nail biter as the first set went to Paige 10-7, but Leo fought back to take the second set 10-5. The third and final set could have gone in either direction but Leo fought hard and won the third set 10-9.
Congratulations are also due to Claire who was a Finalist in the U18 Girls Ballycastle junior tournament.
Parent and Child Tournament 2015
Fortunately we had a lovely Saturday afternoon for the round robin section of the Parent and Child Tournament and the afternoon was greatly enjoyed by the family teams who entered. We had a wide range of ages and everyone played everyone else in the group. There were a lot of close games and right up until the last there were three teams in contention. However Cameron and Richard Bolton and Charlie and Gary Robb came out as the leaders with Chloe and Robin Graham a close third.
This meant that the first two came back to play the Finals on the Sunday morning. Unfortunately the day was not so nice and they had to play through some damp weather. However what the match lacked in sunshine it more than made up for in quality as it was probably the most closely contested Finals in the history of the Parent and Child Tournament. As with the junior league matches an 11 game match was played. Long exciting rallies ensured that after ten games the teams were 5 games all. The 11th game was a tense tie-break game and this was finally won by Cameron and Richard Bolton (pictured).
The Family Trophy was presented to Cameron and Richard by Stephen Leach, Club Chairman (Top picture).
Thank you to all who played and helped make the tournament a fun and successful event. After expenses all moneys from the tournament were donated to Oxfam’s Nepal appeal.
